The Course
 |
The Golf Del Sur course is currently the most
extensive on Tenerife. Featuring 27 holes divided into three different
nine hole rounds it has a total playing surface of 800,000 square metres.
Designed by Pepe Gancedo,
one of
the most notable features of this course are the black sand bunkers giving rise
to amazing colour contrasts. The planting of some 8,000 palm trees and
other species together with a backdrop of sea and mountains combine to make
playing here a memorable experience. The course is cleverly situated between the
apartment complexes providing a pleasant green backdrop to the whole resort.
Particularly difficult is the 3rd hole on the north course. To right of the
wide fairway is a water hazard, behind which lies an impressive ravine with
an ochre coloured rock face, while to the left is a gaping bunker of black
sand. Another notable hole is the 2nd of the southern course, par 3 of 193
meters whose green is surrounded by another immense bunker of black sand.
Since it's inauguration in 1987, Golf del Sur has
been the setting for many top international tournaments including; The Open
de Tenerife, The Tenerife Ladies Open and the Shell Wonderful World of
Golf Tournament. This course has also been the setting for two golf driving
distance records, both of which were set by Britain's Karl Woodward. First
he set a new record of 398 yards and then, a few months later, he managed to
break the legendary 400-yard barrier with a huge stroke which sent the ball
flying 408 yards. |

Guests staying at
our apartments in Golf Del Sur may be entitled to reduced green fees of upto 25%.
To be
eligible, a certificate from an English club showing a handicap of not more than
28 for Men or 36 for women must be held.
Due to the demand for these courses you must book ahead. Bookings will
only be accepted by Fax. When you go to the Club House, you will need to take your handicap
certificate and your booking confirmation for the apartment with you to be able to claim
your discount. |

How to get there |
Take exit 24 off the Autovνa de Tenerife T-I,
towards Los Abrigos. The first turn off on the right goes to the Golf del
Sur development where the golf course is situated |
